Continuing Competency for Builders

December 18th, 2010

Michicode.com will be holding a 3 hr Continuing Competency Class for Residential Builders licensed in The State of Michigan starting in January of 2011.  Right now, we have a number of evening Continuing Competency classes scheduled for Detroit and Warren locations.  Our classes are approved for PA54 continuing education for state registered inspectors (1hr of admin, 1-hr of Technical and 1-hr of Specialty).  The cost of the class is $45.00.

As required by PA157, the Continuing Competency for Residential Builders shall include 1-hr of changes in construction and business law, 1-hr of applicable state building codes and 1-hr of safety.   Although documentation by the attendee or the instructor of class attendance is not being submitted to the State, the State will audit a predetermined percentage of license applicants to confirm the have fulfilled the Continuing Competency requirements.  We will provide you with documentation of attendance.  You will be required to maintain a record of your attendance for 5 years.

Renewal applicants will also be required to “confirm” they possess a copy of the “current” Michigan Residential Code.  The Michigan Residential Code 2009 will go into effect on March 9, 2011.  License renewal for all residential builders in the state will be due on May 31, 2011.  You can preorder The Michigan Residential Code 2009 through The International Code Council at member’s prices by going to Michigan Code Book Discount .  Be sure to enter the code when checking out.
